Q: What is Smart Sense Technology?
A: Smart Sense is a position detection technology built in to each of our electric retracts. Its function is to sense the position of the retracts relative to the transmitter switch. So for example if your plane is sitting on it's wheels ready for pre-flight check and you turn on your transmitter but the switch was inadvertantly in the UP position Smart Sense defects that the retracts are in the DOWN position and does not cycle the retracts to the UP position. This prevents damage the retracts and to your plane.
Q: What are the two selector switches on the electric retracts?
A: The selector switch on each electric retract controls the built-in delay and reverse function.
Q: What function does selector switch one control on the electric retracts?
A: Position one of the selector switch controls the built-in delay feature of the retract sequence. This allows for a more scale like retract sequence that would be seen on some planes like a P-51 where one retracts starts before the other. Depending on the model it is set to between 2 and 4 seconds. To use this feature, switch the selector to the on position for just one of the two retracts. Now when the retracts are cycled one of them will start up to 4 seconds after the other.
Q: What function does selector switch two control on the electric retracts?
A: Position two of the selector switch controls the built-in reverse function. On a two retract system this feature is not likely to be used
Q: What is Auto Lock feature?
A: The Auto Lock ensures that the retracts in either the UP or DOWN locked position. Each time power is cycle on the Auto Lock feature runs the motor for about one second to ensure that the retracts are in the locked position.
Q: What is Over Current Protection?
A: Since your electric retracts are powered by the system battery that controls vital flight functions the Over Current Protection is a fail safe feature that limits the current draw on your systems battery. All WingSpan Retracts feature two over protection schemes to provide a best in class safety system. The first level of protection shuts off the motor in the event the retracts bind or are obstructed from functioning properly. The second level of protection automatically shuts off the motor after a pre-defined time limit. If the retracts become damage and the motor goes into a free running condition the system will shut down the motor after 45 seconds. Both of these protection schemes prevent your retracts from draining the system battery.
